2021 YOUTH PRIZE LIST

The following classes are open to any elementary school pupil unless stated otherwise.  Each entry must be labeled – name of entry, class, section, EXHIBITOR’S FULL NAME AND ADDRESS AND THE SCHOOL ATTENDED IN JUNE 2021.  Grade refers to the exhibitor’s grade at the end of June.  Pupils must enter exhibits only at their grade level (not above or below).  No entry may be exhibited for more than two years.  In the Crafts & Hobbies class, please enter only one piece of work per child in the sections “Any other piece of work (craft or artwork)”.  All exhibits are to be placed in the exhibition hall between 6:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Friday September 17th.

PLEASE REMOVE ALL EXHIBITS FROM THE EXHIBITION HALL BETWEEN 8:00 P.M. AND 9:00 P.M. SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 18TH, 2021.  ANNOUNCEMENT TO PARENTS:  Parents are urged to allow the children to do the work and preparation of exhibits without assistance.  Please encourage them in every way, but remember that every bit of work you do for them helps defeat the object of the youth fair.  Please observe all rules and regulations.

CLASS MM – ROOTS AND VEGETABLES

All vegetables are to be brushed clean and stems trimmed to 1” (2.5 cm)

CLASS OO – BAKING

PRESCHOOL – GRADE 3

  1.       Decorate a large cookie (pie pan size)

  2.       One decorated hard-boiled egg

  3.       Open face sandwich, decorated and wrapped

GRADES 4 – 8

5.        A decorated small square cake (8” or 9” wide)

6.        Make a vegetable animal, name the animal

7.        6 cookies – 3 kinds, 2 of each, label the kinds

8.        A nutritionally balanced school lunch attractively displayed on a plate or tray.

  1. Draw and name a mismatched farm animal, using markers, on paper no larger than 12”x18” (30cm x 45cm).

GRADE 4

  1. Using pastels, draw a picture of a car, truck or tractor on 12”x18” (30cm x 45cm) paper.

  2. Create a collage using different materials to show texture on 12” x 18” (30cm x 45cm) paper.

  3. Craft or piece of work completed during the Covid lockdown. *

 

GRADE 5

  1. Homemade fidget toy.

  2. Design a greeting card for a friend, no larger than 5”x7” (12.5cm x 17.5cm).

GRADE 6

  1. Create a piece of art using items from nature (e.g. rocks, twigs, leaves, etc).

  2. Create a comic strip, at least four frames, with captioning.

GRADES 7 – 8

  1. Create a piece of origami.

  2. Cartoon drawing – any subject, using any colour medium, may be copied by hand.

  3. Design an abstract (e.g. radial, mosaic, tessellation, outlining, etc.) design on 12”x18” (30cm x 45cm) paper.

PRESCHOOL TO GRADE 6

  1. Make a decoration for a birthday party, any theme.

  2. Mount a harvest themed picture on a stiff background and cut up to make a jigsaw

  3. Sew together an outline of a bear on two pieces of fabric of your choice, cut out

and stuff the bear, add features, maximum 8” (20 cm) tall.

  1. Make a cushion suitable for a teenager’s bedroom.  Choose fabric and trims to show

your individual preferences.

            Create a miniature farm in a planter or container no bigger than 24” (60cm) wide or

            long. Use real plants where possible, add equipment, fields, livestock, etc.  Buildings are

WELLINGTON COUNTY FARM AND HOME SAFETY ASSOCIATION Special:

On an 8.5" x 11" (22cm x 28cm) sheet of paper, draw a fire escape plan for your home.  Show the location of fire extinguishers, smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.

56.       GRADES 3 - 6

On an 8.5" x 11" (22cm x 28cm) sheet of paper, draw a picture about farm safety.  Include a sentence on the poster to explain the poster.

Make a poster, larger than 9”x12” (22.5cm x 30cm) advertising or 

commemorating a specific event (e.g. Fire Safety; Remembrance Day; special school events such as book fair, bake sale, concert, school spirit day, sports, etc.).

             Runner-up boy and girl - $10.00

Most points earned by a boy and a girl in the over-all Youth Section will be awarded prize money.   Last year’s first place winners are not eligible for first prize, but may still be awarded runner-up prize.
